Area(s) Bug Observed In: SRC, Crypt


What character were you playing: Valona Dalfiner


Please describe your observations: Summoned a Hound Archon as a wizard. As I entered the crypt door beyond the guards, the Hound Archon started attacking the guards. The guards dispatched of him easily.


Why do you think it's a bug: Naughty doggie. Naughty good-aligned doggie!


Steps needed to reproduce the bug (what were you doing at the time of the bug, and in the time before noticing the bug): Cast Planar Binding near the guards. It seemed to be delayed effect though.

We havent' changed him from the BW blueprint. Summons are all generally set to Faction: Defender in the toolset, which adopts the caster's faction I think.

Duster has some scripts related to quests that may manipulate factions down there. I'm not sure we can do much beyond suggesting dismissing your pets to intereact witht he PCs, but we'll double check their initial faction setups.

IIRC, everybody in SRC is either Defender, Commoner, or Enemy. Faction shifting only occurs via Conv-option or and out-right attack on an NPC.

It sounds like you may have tagged an NPC somewhere with an attack spell cast in town or something Vic.

Can you reproduce these effects now that the server's reset?

Nope: we entered NS from the forest and everyone was blue: Vic went to rest and his fam wnet batshit.

Note also that AFAIK EMS will NEVER target neutrals with AOEs, even if we had been casting in NS.

It sounds like a pretty generic thing then, if it is impacting stuff as varied as elemental summons and familiars and planar bound bad guys. No idea offhand what's wrong though, specifically.

If you can post any kind of details that seem to point to a solution, that might help.

Some of the bad guy';s summons in the easter egg looked like they weren't attacking when they should have been. Dunno if it's related or not.

Not related but when I hit Claire with Mordikainen's Disjunction last night, the kid in NS ran as if I'd performed a hostile action. I didn't check whether he went hostile tho.

Could the hostility controls be damaged somehow?

arQon has already noticed some sort of hostility bug related to dispels, so that may be related Em. People testing stuff in NS couple be screwing up factions until reset if timmy or johnny are in the area.

Please describe your observations: I went into AFK. Summoned IX (water elemental), then went back into giedi, straight away rested. Recast IX (air elemental) suddenly all the guards attacked it. Then nwn crashed and my comp too ;p


Why do you think it's a bug: My elemental isn't that bad?


Steps needed to reproduce the bug (what were you doing at the time of the bug, and in the time before noticing the bug): Above. Although i have not tried just casting an air elemental by itself without the above steps.

It almost sounds to me like the act of calling a summons is somehow signalling itself as a hostile act against nearby friendlies (we're using BW standard defender and commoner factions in the areas reporting problems). Summoned monsters, as a rule of thumb, are defaulted to Defender faction as well, though they adopt their master's faction when they're spawned. I geuss there could either be problems with the summon scripts, or with the ellie Onspawn AI scripts, or with the guard OnPerceive AI hook. Most of our AI stuff is fairly stock BW stuff though, with DMFI and a few bug fixes added in.

Did the ellie initiate contact? If not, did it defend itself after the guards attacked? Did the guards attack you, or did you join in the fight on your own?

My experience:

The guards attack. The ellie fights back. The guard remains Defenders to me, so they don't attack me if I don't attack them.
