Area(s) Bug Observed In: DSM Weyr, Aurilian areas with shrines (anywhere using the Bioware Frozen Wastes tileset that was introduced by HotU and used for the Cania areas in the original game).


What character were you playing: Ember and Sonia


Please describe your observations: Tileset looks funny. Pics follow.


Why do you think it's a bug: Tileset looks funny. Pics follow.


Steps needed to reproduce the bug (what were you doing at the time of the bug, and in the time before noticing the bug): Travel to an area using these tilesets

We actually have fixed this, by removing the alpha (shiny/transparency) layer from the main textures used in this tileset. While it may degrade the appearance for some players (the shininess is gone), it makes the area more playable for everyone. I think this is a hardware issue for certain ATI/AMD video cards.

This fix is available on our Downloads page for your override folder.

Kev and I are running with this fix in override, but I'm going to go ahead and stick it in the HAKs. We've put related fixes into the HAKs elsewhere (recently I did a similar texture fix in the Caves and Mines tileset for the 033 patch, for example.


Bonus note to self: a TGA in the override is a sufficient fix, but we may need to also generate DDS files for HAK-based fixes.

Alright. I've removed the textures from the latest HAK and updated the downloads page.

I've also updates the Frozen Wastes override file to include a fixed texture for the crystals in the Caves and Mines tileset.

This same bug is listed in another thread in our Squished Bugs forum, over here.
