Frequently Used Abbreviations, A FUA for things like AFK, BRB etc...

As a resource for those just entering the world of online gaming, I thought a refference of commonly used abbreviations and terms could be in order. I've started the list, please feel free to reply with others you think could be of use, or corrections to mine. Heck, I'll be adding to it shortly myself...

Chat/Forum Abbreviations:

• AKA - Also Known As
• AFAIK - As far as I know
• AFK - Away from Keyboard
• BRB - Be Right Back
• BBIAB - Be Back in a Bit
• DING - I just leveled!
• GFI - Go For It
• IMO - In my opinion
• LOL - Laugh Out Loud
• KK (or just "k") - okay
• NP - No problem
• RGR - Roger
  
• r? - Are you Ready?
• r - Ready
• cfe - Getting/making Coffee/Beverage
  
• FWIW - For What its Worth
• IMHO - In My Humble Opinion
  
• DN - Dreu Noctem

Neverwinter Abbreviations:

• NWN - Neverwinter Nights
• SoU - Shaddows of Undentide
• HotU - Hordes of the Underdark
• D&D - Dungeons & Dragons
• PnP - Pen & Paper (Usually reffering to traditional D&D Roleplaying)
• Buf - A spell which enhanses the target of the spell (Usually a PC)
• D20 - The system which D&D was based on, and thusly NWN
• GS - Great Sword
• CoT / CoM - Champion of Thorn / Mithra
• BBoD - Black Blade of Desaster
• CoC - Cone of Cold
• DBF - Delayed Blast Fireball
• ATS - Ambrose Trade Skill system
• EMS - Enhanced Magic System
• FoY - Fountain of Youth (Area on Dreu Noctem that allows you to rebuild your character at the cost of some xp)
• TO - 'Target Other' Sequencers

Chatting Protocols:

Typically on Dreu Noctem, everyone forms one big party. Partly just tradition/habbit, partly for the sense of online community.

So when using chat features in NWN, if your playing alone use PARTY chat to communicate with the rest of the players. You'll only be talking with them anyways so it's no problem.

If your playing with some people in the same area, but not all players are there, use TALK to communicate. That way whatever your discussing for the adventure your on stays local and dosent innundate the server with your chatter.

Of course, if EVERYONE is with you, feel free to use PARTY. The downside to TALK is that if you get our of sight, the party isn't going to hear you.

A note: DM's can hear PARTY chat wherever you are. They can also hear TALK, but only if they are right beside you. DM's will often use SHOUT to talk, as PARTY dosen't work for them. My point here is you don't have to SHOUT back to talk to a DM.

Chatting Quickeys

• /dm - Send message directly to DM Channel (All DM's will recieve your message)
• /p - Send message as PARTY
• /tk - Send message as TALK
• /s - Send message as SHOUT
• /t "playername" - Send message to "playername"

Of course you can click on the word on your chat line in NWN and change which it's set for. That way when you want to send a message to your default (starts as TALK) you just hit ENTER and start typing.

Also, if you click on the portrait of the player, it will start a private message to them.

IMPORTANT: If you are a rogue, at a certain point your stealth skills will be good enough that if you stand in a party and are stealthed, other characters with low spot and listen won't be able to see you. If you use "talk" while stealthed, those other characters won't be able to see what you say either. The best solution is to find a friendly tank with low spot/listen and test. If the tank can't see you when you stealth, use party talk all the time to make sure the party can understand what is going on. If you don't have a chance to test or aren't sure, I'd lean towards party chat over talk when playing a rogue. It's a really bad thing if your party doesn't get your scout reports .
